New Nace Member!:

By Michael Anderson
NACE Membership Chair:

Sacramento chapter of NACE would like to introduce one of our newest members, Reg Holiday of Sacramento Magazine. With Sacramento Magazine's help, NACE is expanding the advertising services that are available to its members. Many of you have already browsed the beautiful layout they have to offer. Sacramento Magazine is excited to support the organization that supports our wedding industry and they are eager to support you.

"Our Wedding" is a new semi-annual wedding resource and guide for the region. All the stories and photography are locally generated. They are striving to be the most complete and comprehensive wedding publication to serve you and the hundreds of brides in the local area. They have many different advertising options to fit most budgets so give them a call. They even have online options as well.

If you are interested in finding out more about this great advertising opportunity, please contact Tara Francis at (916) 452-6200 ext. 3023.

Monty's Menu:

It’s All About the Network

by Monty Montgomery, NACE VP

Probably the main reason we all join NACE is for the opportunity to network with other top professionals in the event and hospitality industry.

After talking with several other members of our illustrious group, we are going to devote the May NACE meeting and dinner to all things “networking”.

From the opening hors d’oeuvres hour, thru the first course section of dinner and immediately following dessert, we will have some fun, pressure-free exercises designed to really let you put a face to the name behind our businesses.

In addition to dressing comfortably in blue-jeans, white shirts and comfortable shoes, bring 80 business cards to share during our fast-paced speed networking round.

This promises to be a unique meeting, with interesting food and design, accompanied by the opportunity to re-introduce yourself in a new way to your old alliances, while acquiring new friends and associate vendors.

Solar Ovens?:

Solar Cooking

By Susie Calise

The days are getting longer and it’s the perfect time to do some outdoor cookin, but wait, not on the BBQ – with the sun.  Ok, I know what you’re thinking.  “Am I going to poison my family with uncooked meat or what?”   No! I’ve been using a solar oven for about 10 years now every summer and I absolutely love it.  I put our dinner in one of the cookers at about noon and face it to the sun, by about 6:30 pm it’s cooked to perfection, the house stays cool and the food is so delicious you wouldn’t believe it.  Meat is falling off the bone, or so incredibly tender like it’s been in a crock pot all day.  I’ve always made “box ovens” and the temperature gets up to about 275°.  Perfect for slow cooking.  Nothing burns.  Nothing dries out.  AND believe it or not, Solar Cookers International is right here in Sacramento. 1919 21st Street. 916.455.4499.  Stop by and get some info and look at the different kinds of ovens they have to buy.  Or build your own.  What a wonderful thing to do for our environment and it’s an excellent lesson for our kids.  I’ve taken mine to my son’s school to make cookies for the class several times.  They get a huge kick out of it.   Check out www.solarcookers.org and think out of the box J.
